The German words in every Berlin flat ad

Berlin's rental market runs on about fifteen German words, and most of them mean something more specific than a dictionary will tell you. These are the ones that decide whether you can register your address, get your deposit back, or legally be in the flat at all — written for someone reading ads this week, not for a law exam.

General information, not legal advice. For a dispute, Berlin's Mieterverein is the right call.

The vocabulary is only half of it. The other half is that Berlin sublets are gone within hours of being posted, mostly in group chats you have to already be in. That is the part we do for you — every listing from those groups and the listing sites, pulled apart into neighbourhood, rent, dates and type, in one feed. Or read how not to get scammed first, which is the entry most worth your time before you send anybody money.
